Steeling Nature - Nature Captured In Steel..

As Part of the Easter Island collection that i'm creating l was very interested in the Maoi statues found on the island. The Tallest currently stands at 10 meters high and weighs 89 tons, my creation stands at just under 4 ft, but l think you'll agree, still impressive.

The picture below shows the effect of oxidisation the sculpture now looks as though it was carved from stone.

Normally I would recommend a coating of "Danish Oil " but for this piece I will let it oxidise naturally.

It will retain a raw texture not unlike the real thing.

As a bonus to make a feature of the sculpture I have installed two Halogen lights behind his eye sockets. These project a beam of light into the garden.

This picture was taken during the creation of the Moai.

Each piece was cut shaped and then welded back into place using the MIG process.

This took over 100 hours to do , each detail was sanded to speed up the oxidisation process.

Firepits

These are some firepits also in the style of the Easter Island.

Great for the winter months
